Jill Lees is a distinguished law enforcement professional with a career spanning over two decades, she is characterized by her unwavering commitment to upholding justice and promoting officer well-being. Hailing from Hammond, Indiana, Jill embarked on her journey in criminal justice at Indiana University, earning her B.A. degree in 1995. Her dedication to law enforcement led her to the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, where she trained as an IU Part-time Police Officer in 1994, subsequently taking her oath at the Plainfield Police Department on National Peace Officers Memorial Day in May 1995.
Over the course of her illustrious career at the Plainfield Police Department, Jill assumed various roles and responsibilities, including DARE Officer, Department Instructor/Field Training Officer, Bicycle Patrol Officer, School Resource Officer, Explorer Post Leader, Hostage Negotiator, Chaplain, Public Information Officer, Child Safety Seat Technician, and Crime Watch Coordinator. Her leadership propelled her through the ranks, culminating in her appointment as Deputy Chief of Support, overseeing the Investigations and Support Branches. Jill's dedication extended beyond the field, as she actively participated in community engagement initiatives and received accolades such as the prestigious Van Buren Elm award in 2019, the highest honor bestowed by the Town of Plainfield.
In 2019, Jill Lees transitioned to a new chapter in her career as the Chief of Police of the Indiana University Police Department Bloomington Division, where she served until August 2023. During her tenure, she continued to champion the cause of officer wellness, leveraging her role as a member of the wellness team. Her pursuit of excellence extended to academic achievements, including graduation from the FBI National Academy Session #279 in 2020 and the FBI LEEDS Session #80 in 2022. Committed to her alma mater, Jill was selected to serve on the Distinguished Alumni Council for the Indiana University Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs in 2020, earning reappointment for a second term in 2023. She also earned the Elite 50 Award at the IUPUI campus in April 2021 and completed her MPA with a concentration in Public Management from the O’Neill School at the IUPUI campus in May 2022.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Jill Lees remains dedicated to her personal wellness, actively participating in fitness programs such as the Richard A. Carlucci Recreation and Aquatic Center and the Plainfield Mini-Marathon and 5k training program. Her passion for running fuels her commitment to supporting others in achieving their fitness goals, reflecting her dedication to both personal and community well-being. Additionally, she is an active member of St. Susanna Catholic Church, further underscoring her commitment to community and spiritual growth.
